"What are roots?"
We've continued our interest in how plants grow over the last few weeks at Nursery. After reading a story all about how a flower grows, we had some questions about the different parts of a flower. We investigated Josh's question "what are roots?" by growing some beans in a bag. We knew they'd need water and sunlight so we hung them on the window and watched them grow. We got to see all the different parts of a plant; including the roots, shoots, stem and leaves.
We've also been waiting patiently for some vegetables to grow. We have grown them from seed and were very excited to see them turning into plants. We picked, washed, smelled and tasted our very own home-grown radishes!

At Nursery we have a 'Helicopter Stories' session three times a week. It is a very special part of our day where we come together to share, tell and act out stories. We've been increasing in confidence during our story telling sessions, and now confidently enter the 'stage' to act out stories in front of the audience.
Now, we're even having a go at telling our own stories for our friends to act out on stage. Have a look at some of our first attempts below!
At Nursery we were very lucky to have some special visitors. We received ten eggs in a special incubator and made some very good guesses about what we thought might hatch out. After a couple of days, our eggs began to hatch and some fluffy Spring chicks popped out! We were lucky enough to see some of them hatch right before our eyes. We all helped to look after them - keeping their brooder box clean, making sure they had food and water, reading to them and even giving them lots of cuddles when they were old and strong enough.
Spring View Finders
We started noticing lots of signs of a new season in our Nursery garden and at Forest School, so we each took home our very own view finder with the challenge to spot as many signs of Spring as possible! We uploaded lots of pictures to Tapestry of all the beautiful things we spotted on days out, at the park or on our way to Nursery.
Have a look at the slideshow below to see some of our beautiful finds!
Who Helps Me?
During the Spring Term, we have talked about all the people in our lives and communities who help us.
We read two books about all the wonderful people who help us by doing things like filling the shelves at the supermarkets, and taking away our rubbish:
- Real Superheroes by Julia Seal
- A Superhero Like You by Dr Ranj
We were lucky enough to have some visitors from our community and even learned about some of the people who help us at school, like Mrs Clougher!
