Welcome from the new Chair of Governors
I trust everybody is settling in to the new school year and embracing a little bit more normality in life. On behalf of the governing body, I would like to pass on our sincere thanks for all of the effort that has gone in to the last 18 or so months, firstly to the staff for rapidly adapting in an extraordinarily challenging environment to provide as high a quality learning experience as possible for the children and the large amount of work that went on behind the scenes in enabling that. Secondly, to all the parents and carers for supporting the teachers and embracing the then new concept of ‘home learning’; as a parent I personally know how hard that was. Thirdly, to the children for showing the resilience and adaptability to cope with what should hopefully be a once in a lifetime experience for them; it’s a proud moment to walk around school and see how well they have all coped and settled back in. It shows what we achieve as a school community when we all pull together as one.
There have been a number of changes in the governing body recently that I would like to share with you. Jenny Davidson has stepped down as Chair of Governors. Jenny has expertly guided the school through not only the pandemic but also the recruitment of a new headteacher in the middle of a pandemic, both of which have taken a lot of time and effort on her behalf. Luckily for us Jenny is staying on the governing board so her experience and expertise won’t be lost. Frances Cameron has also resigned from the Governing Body. Frances’ background as a solicitor gave a valuable alternative perspective to many of the challenges we face; she was instrumental in many of the school policies now in place and we wish her well in the future. Michelle Jones has also sadly resigned her position as governor. Many of you will know Michelle not only as a governor, but as a parent and for the work she did with the PTFA. I think we can all agree that Michelle’s personal contribution to Grange has been nothing short of outstanding over many years and we will be very sorry to see her go.
I was elected Chair in place of Jenny and hope to carry on her excellent work in supporting the headteacher and staff, as well as helping to guide the school as we move forwards. For those that don’t know me, my ‘day job’ is a consultant electrical engineer. As a child, I went through the Gosforth school system (although not Grange) and have lived most of my life in the local area. My daughter left Grange to go to middle school this year after 5 fantastic years at the school. I was originally elected as a parent governor but transferred to a co-opted governor when my daughter left. Andy Hicken has been elected as Vice Chair (in place of Frances) and Leanne Lamb (Headteacher of Gosforth Park) has agreed to join us as a Foundation Governor in place of Michelle. There is currently a vacancy for a parent governor that Mrs Clougher will be addressing after half term.
Should anybody want to contact me or any of the other governors, please call, email or speak to the school office and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
